Should hypoglycemia be recognized by mainstream medicine as a classifiable illness?

Or could you say that “A more appropriate term would have been ‘dysglycemia’, indicating unstable blood glucose concentrations often seen in a Glucose Tolerance Test of people having ‘hypoglycemic’ symptoms”.

It goes over my head a bit but antidepressant medication has funny side effects that psychologically i can not deal with.
I can’t drink diet drinks, they make me feel nausae. And there is a link to phenylalanine in the article.
My GP is one of those that if it’s not in his book it is not treatable and for most other things there is an antibiotic or anti-depressant. He won’t even entertain the idea i might be hypoglycemic and all my problems (mental and from there into physical) are due to my body having trouble balancing it’s glucose levels. So asking to be referred to a clinical nutritionist is a waste of time.
You opinion please? Thanks

Hypo/hyperglycemia are considered signs and symptoms of diabetes, or side effects. Very rarely have I seen it diagnosed separately.
I was told in nursing school that hypo/hyperglycemia does not cause mood swings, that just not feeling good due to the blood glucose imbalances is what cause the mood swings. I tend to disagree.
I work as a mental health nurse; geriatrics and a lot of the patients are diabetic. I have only seen one hypoglycemic with out the hyper., and this person happens to have pica (eating things they are not supposed to: rocks, forks, spoons, raw dead animals, etc.). And come to think about it, after her hypoglycemia was treated effectively, she quit eating what she was not supposed to. I just though it was the Haldol! LOL. You have a good question.
So yes, I do believe hypoglycemia is a treatable condition separate from Diabetes, and yes I think it’s possible that hypoglycemia can lead to mental disorders. Instead of a nutritionist, you should see a psychiatrist (if you haven’t already) along with your GP.
